Meet The Staff
PASTORS
In English, the most common words to describe the leaders of the church are “pastor” and “elder.” These are two different words that describe the same biblical office. In Greek, there are three words that describe this office, but they are used interchangeably in the New Testament (Acts 20:28, 1 Peter 5:1-3). The Scriptures make it clear that local churches are meant to be led by a team of men that are the pastor/elder/overseers of the church. Here is our pastoral team at Compass Bible Church Treasure Valley:
Pastor Ben Blakey
In August 2018, Pastor Ben was commissioned by Compass Bible Church in Aliso Viejo, CA, to plant a new church in the Treasure Valley. He had served as a pastor there for nine years in youth ministry, worship ministry, and more. While pursuing a degree in constitutional law from The Master’s University, God changed his plans and called him into ministry. He met his wife, Holly, at Compass, and they have five kids - Hannah, Mac, Jones, Watson and Brooks. Ben has completed his Master of Divinity degree through the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Pastor Charlie Matz
Pastor Charlie joined the staff at Compass Bible Church Treasure Valley in June of 2020. He previously worked in marketing as an entrepreneur for 15 years until God called him into pastoral ministry. Charlie holds a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and is a certified Biblical Counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). He has been married to his wife Kristina since 2006, and they have six children – David, Evie, Daisy, J.R., Esther, and Penny.
Pastor Stephen Duwe
Pastor Stephen moved to Boise and joined the staff at Compass Bible Church Treasure Valley in 2024. While working toward becoming a CPA, God redirected his desires and led him into pastoral ministry. He received a Master of Divinity from The Master’s Seminary in 2016 and pastored near Seattle until joining Compass. His roles here include leading Outreach, Men’s Ministry, and Compass Classroom. Stephen is married to Veronica and they have three kids: Oliver, Mabel, and Luciana.
Pastor Johnny Broadworth
Pastor Johnny and his wife, AJ, moved to Idaho in 2022 to partner with and serve at CBCTV. His primary role is leading the music ministry at Compass. His prayer is that the church will truly worship God with rich theology and hearts that love God. He also leads The Grove, Compass’s middle-school ministry. He holds degrees in Biblical Counseling and Bible Exposition from The Master’s University—where he and his wife met—and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from The West Institute in Laramie, WY.
DEACONS
The English word “deacon” comes from a Greek word that is properly translated “servant” or “minister.” While every Christian is supposed to serve and minister in the church, it seems clear from the New Testament (Acts 6:1-6, 1 Tim. 3:8-13) that some are to be set apart as deacons/ministers in a more official capacity. These servants can be men or women. At Compass Bible Church, we consider our staff, our Life Group leaders, and other key ministry leaders to be “deacons.” Here are the men and women who serve on staff as deacons at Compass Bible Church Treasure Valley:

Chris Hernandez
Business Administrator
Chris and his wife, Kelly, moved their family to Idaho in late 2020. Moving with a family vision to be salt and light and to bring an eternal perspective to those who are moving to the Treasure Valley. Together they lead a life group and serve on the Connect Team at CBCTV, working to help others build and pursue community at church. Chris brings 15 years of experience in church finance, budgeting, and strategic planning into his role as the Business Administrator. Chris will oversee Finances, HR, and will spearhead our "Build My Church" initiative. He is excited to watch how God will use CBCTV to magnify and exalt the name of Christ here in the Treasure Valley. To God be all the Glory!
Kendra Howard
Ministry Coordinator
Kendra and her husband Brett moved to Idaho in 2018 to be a part of the CBC TV church plant and it has quickly become their home. She is thankful to have the opportunity to serve Christ and His Kingdom by serving the church. She has a background in finance, administration and team management. Kendra and her husband Brett were married in 2011 have 4 children (Quinn, Jackson, Luke and Beau) and reside in Nampa. She currently coordinates hospitality, media, and special events as well as special projects.
KIMBERLY DUNn
Office Manager/Assistant to Pastor Stephen
Kim has resided in Idaho since 1994 and started attending CBCTV in 2022 with her family. Kim has an entrepreneurial background, owning and operating various businesses, while also being a homemaker for a couple of decades. Kim and Phil have four children (two still at home): Trevor (Dafne), Emma (Drew), Julianna, and Lilly, and three grandchildren: Hadassah, Oliver, and Lisa Rae. Kim and her family are passionate about the local church, as it was a matter of prayer for several years for them to find a church like CBCTV and they continue to pray that Kim’s efforts in her role would bring glory to God and further the kingdom of Christ.
Jamie Langin
Assistant to Pastor Ben & Pastor Charlie
Jamie and her husband Raoul have been married 27 years and have 4 children: Taylen, Kinsey, Trenton, and Carter, and one granddaughter: Noelle. They have been attending CBCTV since 2020. Jamie has a background in nutrition and teaching and has spent the past 8 years teaching at a classical Christian school in the Treasure Valley. She has a passion for serving God’s people and the local church. Jamie earned a bachelor's degree in Nutritional Sciences from Seattle Pacific University and is currently pursuing a degree in Biblical Counseling from Compass Bible Institute. She is excited to work at Compass serving Pastor Ben and Pastor Charlie.
DAN BISHOP
Facilities Director
Dan and his wife, Marci moved to Idaho in late 2019, and started attending CBCTV in 2023. Dan is a dedicated member of the church maintenance staff, ensuring that the facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming for all. With a strong work ethic and attention to detail, Dan is committed to serving Christ by maintaining the church grounds, repairs and assisting with event setup. Committed to serving both the congregation and the community, working behind the scenes to create a comfortable and well-kept environment for worship and fellowship. Dan and Marci have been married since 1997 Have 4 children and 7 grandchildren.

Tim Plaster
Assistant Director of Worship
Tim and Kate, along with their four boys, Tyson, Owen, Seth and Levi, moved to Idaho in 2017 from Simi Valley, California. Tim has been leading worship part time at Compass Bible since 2020, and is primarily shepherding the Kids’ Ministry worship and Plants & Pillars student ministry worship team. He enjoys hymns, throwback worship from the 90s, and is always excited to hear the new music that comes from artists like the Gettys and Sovereign Grace. In addition to his part time role at CBTV, teaches guitar to about 35 students in the Treasure Valley.
Deb Andreasen
Women’s Event Coordinator
Deb and her family moved to Idaho from San Diego in 2020. For the past fifteen years, Deb has been a dedicated homemaker, wife and homeschool teacher to her three children. Prior to this, Deb earned her masters degree in nonprofit management from the University of San Diego while organizing galas, fundraisers, and putting together print and social media for a nonprofit. Deb enjoys applying her experience and love for the Lord as the women’s ministry events coordinator. Deb and her husband, Mark, serve at Compass alongside their children, Zach, Rena, and Lucy.

Luc Lefort
Director of High School Ministry
Luc and his wife Ariana moved to Idaho in May of 2024 to join the staff of Compass Bible Church Treasure Valley. Before joining CBCTV Luc and his wife both served in high school ministry for 4 years, where he led a Bible study and she served as a small group leader. He graduated from The Master’s University in 2021 with a bachelor’s in Theology. He also graduated from The Master’s Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree in 2024. Luc and Ariana have been married since 2022 and have one child - Thomas.

Director of Middle School Ministry
Pastor Johnny and his wife, AJ, moved to Idaho in 2022 to partner with and serve at CBCTV. Johnny also leads the music ministry at Compass. He teaches the middle schoolers from God’s Word each Sunday night and devotes much of his time to love and shepherd them. He holds degrees in Biblical Counseling and Bible Exposition from The Master’s University and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from The West Institute in Laramie, WY.
Kids Ministry
Jared campbell
Director of Children’s Ministry
Jared moved to the Treasure Valley in 2019 with his wife Emely and their children. They both have a love for raising children in God's word and pointing them to the gospel. His aim as the Kids Ministry Director is to provide parents and children with sound biblical resources and instruction. His desire is that the Compass Kids Ministry work alongside parents in training and teaching children in the way they should go. Jared has been attending Compass Bible Church since 2019 and has served within the Kids Ministry, Middle School Ministry and as a Life Group Leader. He has earned a Master of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Brenda Burandt
Friends Ministry Coordinator
Brenda began attending CBCTV when she moved to Idaho in the summer of 2019. Since then, she has served within Kids Ministry and been a part of weekday and weekend programming. Brenda is passionate about teaching kids God’s Word and enjoys creating spaces where they can interact meaningfully with the truth of the Bible. Brenda graduated from Westmont College with a Bachelors in Kinesiology and from UC, Santa Barbara, with a Masters in Special Education and Teaching Credential. Brenda has been a Special Education Teacher for students with Moderate-Severe Disabilities. Barrett and Brenda married in November 2021, and have two children.
